Race day doesn't happen without the people behind it.

For over 20 years, BustinSkin has been delivering triathlons, running races and endurance events across Dorset. Behind every start line, finish line and successful race is a dedicated team of volunteers who make it all possible.

Whether you're an experienced marshal, a regular competitor or someone who's never volunteered before, there's a place for you on the BustinSkin Race Crew.

And for 2027, we're giving something back to the people who give their time.

Volunteer at a BustinSkin event and earn Race Crew Credit towards your next race.

Every hour you give helps make race day happen.

As a thank-you, volunteers at participating events can earn BustinSkin Race Crew Credit, which can be used towards entry into an eligible BustinSkin event.

  • Short shifts available — at many events, you can help for as little as three hours.

  • Earn race entry credit — rewards depend on the event and length of your shift.

  • Bank your credits — save credits from multiple events towards a bigger race later.

  • Choose your race — use your credit towards an eligible BustinSkin event.

  • Full-day rewards — some events offer a free race entry in return for a full day of volunteering.

If your chosen race costs more than your available credit, simply pay the difference.

Race Crew Credit is valid for 18 months from the date earned. Credits and free entries are personal to the volunteer, non-transferable, have no cash alternative and are subject to event availability.

Credit is earned once your agreed volunteer shift has been completed and can then be requested when you're ready to enter a race.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

There are plenty of ways to get involved, and you don't need previous experience for most roles.

Before Race Day

Some of the most important work happens before the first athlete arrives.

  • Preparing courses and setting out signage

  • Building transition areas and bike racking

  • Setting up aid stations and finish areas

  • Installing barriers and event equipment

  • Preparing registration and athlete facilities

On Race Day

This is where the Race Crew really makes a difference.

  • Course marshalling and directing athletes

  • Registration and athlete check-in

  • Handing out drinks at aid stations

  • Supporting transition and finish areas

  • Car park and arrival management

  • Helping athletes and spectators

  • Supporting event communications and logistics

Whether you're positioned out on the course or right at the finish line, you'll be helping hundreds of people enjoy their race.

Specialist roles, including medical support, require appropriate qualifications.

After the Finish Line

Once the final athlete crosses the line, there's still work to do.

Helping pack away equipment, collect signage and leave the venue as it was found is another valuable part of delivering a successful event.

JUST A FEW HOURS CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Not everyone can give up an entire Sunday, and that's absolutely fine.

Many events offer shorter shifts, so you can help in the morning, around the finish line or wherever support is needed.

Even three hours of your time can make a huge difference.

For those who want to be more involved, there are also opportunities to join the core Events Team, help with event preparation and take on additional responsibilities.

Volunteers who make an exceptional contribution may receive an additional reward as a thank-you.

LOOKING AFTER THE RACE CREW

Volunteers are an essential part of BustinSkin events, and looking after them matters.

Food and refreshments are provided throughout your agreed shift.

Depending on the event, there may also be event merchandise available and, where possible, an opportunity to get together for a thank-you meal or drink after the race.

You'll receive information about your role before race day, along with the guidance and support needed to carry it out safely.

WHO CAN JOIN?

Race Crew registration is open to volunteers aged 18 and over.

Many roles involve independent marshalling or travelling to positions around the course.

Got the kids with you? No problem. Children are welcome to come along with a registered adult where the role and location are suitable.

Whether you've marshalled with BustinSkin for years or this is your first time, we'd love to have you on the team.

You don't need to be a BustinSkin Triathlon Club member or an experienced athlete.

Just bring some enthusiasm and a willingness to help.

HOW TO CLAIM YOUR RACE CREW CREDIT

Once you've completed your agreed volunteer shift, you can request your Race Crew Credit to use towards an eligible BustinSkin event.

When you're ready to enter, email volunteercredit@bustinskin.com with:

  • Your name

  • The event you volunteered at

  • The shift you completed

  • The BustinSkin race you'd like to enter

Once your completed shift has been verified, we'll issue your personal discount code to use when entering your chosen event.

If you've earned a free race entry through a qualifying full-day volunteer shift, simply let us know which eligible BustinSkin triathlon you'd like to enter and we'll arrange your entry code.
